Lemudong'o, Kenya 6.1 Ma
|
Lemudong'o Locality 1 in the Narok District of southern Kenya yields a securely dated 6.1 Ma fossil assemblage dominated by small mammals. The fauna includes numerous rodents, small colobine monkeys (including a new species of Paracolobus), hyracoids, and a diversity of viverrid and other carnivores (including a new species of Plesiogulo). Two years of RHOI funding allowed completion of paleontological and geological field work and laboratory analyses, enabling the project to publish the site in volume 56 of Kirtlandia (2007).
