Afar Rift, Ethiopia Mio-Pliocene
|
Dr. Yohannes Haile-Selassie secured funding from the RHOI in March 2004 to continue paleoanthropological exploration in the Central Afar rift of Ethiopia initiated in the area in 2002 with funding from the National Science Foundation and the Leakey Foundation. This exploration was conducted in the Bati-Mille-Chifra Triangle located in the Central Afar Rift of Ethiopia. The exploration supported by the RHOI was conducted on the south side of the Chifra-Mille road and east side of the Kasa Gita-Chifra road. Additional survey was conducted west of Dalifage town, 120 Km south of Kasa Gita, along the western margin of the escarpment. The latter exploration was conducted to locate fossilifeorus late Miocene deposits for the Middle Awash project. |
